US President Donald Trump threatened that if the company continues to manufacture iPhone in India or elsewhere, he would impose 25 percent tariffs on Apple products. In social media posts, Trump said that this legendary company in the technology sector will have to pay 25 percent tariff to Washington. Trump said in a post on Truth Social that I had informed Apple’s Tim Cook long ago that I hope that his iPhone sold in the United States would be built and built in the United States, not in India or any other place. If this is not the case, then Apple will have to pay at least 25% tariff to the US.
Threats on social media may dramatically increase the price of the iPhone, causing damage to one of the US leading technology companies. The company has now come under the target of the White House along with Amazon, Walmart and other major companies, as they are trying to respond to the uncertainty and inflation pressure arising from the import taxes levied by Trump. Meanwhile, Apple has not given any indication to reduce its operations in India. Sources in the Government of India confirmed that the authorities spoke to Apple officials after Trump’s comments, and were assured that the investment plans of the technical giant for India were intact.
A senior official said that Apple has said that its investment plans in India are firm and it proposes to continue India as a major manufacturing center for its products. Apple currently assembles around 40 million iPhones in India annually, which is about 15% of its global production. The manufacturing is led by Foxconn and Tata Electronics in Tamil Nadu, which recently handled the Pegatron. Both companies are expanding their features, adding new plants and production lines to increase capacity.
