Why are the cases of Kovid growing in India?
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has stated that Omikron’s sub-variants are the cause of the bounce in Covid cases in India, which was a strain behind the large wave of Kovid in India in 2022. ICMR chief Dr. Rajiv Bahl said that these variants are LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1, the first three are prevalent. Dr. Bahl also confirmed that the increase in the cases of Kovid-19 started from South to West and Now North India. All these cases are being monitored through the Integrated Disease Monitoring Program (IDSP).
Dr. Bahl said that at present the severity of infection is generally mild and there is nothing to worry. He said that whenever cases increase, it is important to pay attention to three factors: the first virus is infertility, second, how fast the cases are growing and the third percentage of serious cases. Dr. Bahl said that at present cases are not increasing rapidly and new variants are not able to dodge previous immunity. He also said that in most cases seriousness is low and people with concomitant diseases are seeing seriousness. Dr. Bahl insisted on the need to be vigilant and ready.
