The extended meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be held in Patna on 24 September. Party officials believe that the gathering of top Congress leaders in the Bihar capital will help further increase the impact of ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ by Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav with other Indian block leaders. The decision to hold the CWC meeting in Patna has been taken at a time when the Congress is under pressure to compromise 10-15 less seats compared to the 70 seats fought by its allies in the last election, which the party leadership is trying to oppose.
The Bihar Congress unit has started the process of deliberation on possible candidates for those seats on which the party will contest elections and the process of selection of candidates will be handed over to the AICC Screening Committee later this month. Prior to the Bihar assembly elections, the Congress on Tuesday formed its state election committee, which includes leaders like Bihar unit chief Rajesh Ram, Shakeel Ahmed Khan and Madan Mohan Jha to prepare for the elections.
