Tariq Anwar, Member Secretary of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the Congress, said in a statement that the Congress president has expelled former Madhya Pradesh MLA Laxman Singh from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress for a period of six years with immediate effect due to his anti -party activities.
The Congress on Wednesday expelled Laxman Singh, brother of Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh, from primary membership for six years to comment against Rahul Gandhi. In a press release, the party said that he has been expelled from the Congress with immediate effect due to anti -party activities.
However, the party in its official statement did not clarify the anti -party activities for which Laxman Singh was expelled. The development has come to light after the recommendation of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) disciplinary committee to expel former MLA and five -time MP from the party. The committee said that his repeated public statements against the leadership have tarnished the party’s image.
Last month, a show cause notice was sent to Laxman Singh, as he allegedly questioned how long the party would have to deal with the immatureness of both Robert Vadra and Rahul Gandhi. In view of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Laxman Singh had created a major controversy within his party, saying that “Rahul Gandhi and Robert Vadra are immature”. Paying tribute to those killed in the terrorist attack on 24 April, Laxman Singh further said, “The country is suffering the consequences of his immaturity.”
