New Delhi. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Thursday and discussed with him the law and order situation in the state. He said that the security agencies of the Center and the State would work together to deal with all the issues related to law and order.
Sources said that both the leaders discussed the issue of law and order. Mann briefed Shah about the circumstances surrounding the Ajnala incident. Self-styled Sikh preacher and Khalistan sympathizer Amritpal Singh and his supporters got into a scuffle with policemen at a police station in Ajnala, Amritsar, on 23 February for the release of one of their comrades.

These protesters had swords and guns in their hands. The police had to assure the protesters that they would release Lovepreet Singh, an aide of Amritpal Singh and an accused in the kidnapping case. “Centre and Punjab will work together on law and order issues,” Mann tweeted.
The Chief Minister said that during the discussion with the Home Minister, he also raised the issue related to the increasing activities of drones on the border and drugs. Mann said he also requested Shah to release the pending Rural Development Fund of Punjab at the earliest. Central government officials said the Union Home Ministry is keeping a “close watch” on the situation in Punjab in the wake of resurgence in pro-Khalistani activities. (agency)
