China has handed over the J-35A Stealth Fighter Jet to Pakistan. The first deployment is on the Scardu airbase. Pakistan has become the first country in South Asia with a fifth generation fighter aircraft. Under the deal, China will give a total of 40 J-35A to Pakistan. 12 will meet in August under the second batch. They are of the fifth generation. Being equipped with stealth technology, it is capable of avoiding radar. India currently has no stealth fighter jet. Early delivery of China’s next generation stealth fighter aircraft may change the air power balance in South Asia. India continues to modernize its Air Force with platforms such as Russian SU-30MKI and French Rafale Jet, but no one has the stealth capabilities of J-35A. The deal also reflects China’s first known exports of fifth generation fighter jet, which reflects its ambitions as a global arms supplier.

Planned at the end of 2026, Pakistan is now expected to get the first batch of J-35A fighter aircraft six months ago, possibly for the initial 30 jet aircraft by August 2025. This fast has come after high-level diplomatic and military exchanges, including Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar’s Beijing visit and General Zhang Euxia’s Islamabad visit. Pakistan aims to reduce the qualitative air power difference with India, which still uses a non-stelt platform. Pakistani media reports say that the country’s pilots are already training on J-35A in China, which reflects Islamabad’s commitment to include new stealth fighter jets in its fleet. In addition, the post posted by a Pakistani Air Force fan on X recently shown the J-35 in the test flight, which has increased the expectation of the aircraft soon.
