China captured India’s land, how do you know, if you were true Indians … strict comment on Rahul Gandhi

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the defamation proceedings against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi claimed to have beaten the Indian Army by the Chinese Army during the struggle on the border in Arunachal Pradesh in December 2022. The Supreme Court on Monday reprimanded Rahul Gandhi on his claim and said that China has captured the Indian region. He said, “If you were a true Indian, you did not say that.”

The apex court’s strict remarks came to a ban on proceedings in the case of criminal defamation against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, which included his comment about the Indian Army in the context of the 2020 Galwan Valley Conflict with Chinese soldiers. The Congress leader had claimed that China illegally occupied 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory. He also claimed that “Chinese soldiers are beating Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh”.

During the hearing, the bench questioned Gandhi, “How did you know that the 2000 square kilometers of land has been captured by the Chinese, if you are a true Indian, you will not say that.” The bench said, “You are the Leader of the Opposition; Say your point in Parliament, not on social media.” The apex court also issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant in the case. A bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Augustine George Christ passed the order while hearing the challenge given by Gandhi to the summons order against him. The Congress leader had argued that the complaint was motivated by politics and was filed in a malicious manner.
