The Enforcement Directorate had last year issued orders for attachment of properties of the two accused and some others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). After the latest action, the total value of the attached properties in this case has gone up to about Rs 170 crore.

The agency alleges that its probe is related to “a huge scam in which illegal extortion of Rs 25 was being done for each tonne of coal transported in Chhattisgarh by a group involving senior bureaucrats, businessmen, politicians and middlemen”. So far nine people including Chaurasia and Tiwari have been arrested in this case. (agency)
