Money laundering case related to liquor scam
The ED has attacked Sukma -based Congress Party office and MLA and former minister Kawasi Lakhma in the state under investigation into the money laundering case related to the alleged liquor scam of more than Rs 2100 crore during the previous Bhupesh Baghel government in the state. Reacting to the action of the ED, the head of the communication wing of the Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress, Sushil Anand Shukla said that on the instructions of the BJP, the ED has attached the party’s Sukma district office.

Part of BJP’s political conspiracy
Shukla said, “At the behest of the BJP, central agencies are crossing their boundaries. The Congress’s Sukma District Congress Bhavan is extremely objectionable to the ED. This action of ED is part of the BJP’s political conspiracy.” He said that he will give account of each money for funding to build a district office. Shukla said that the Congress had built Rajiv Bhavan with the help of its workers and public while staying in opposition for 15 years.

RSS sets up its office in Delhi at a cost of 500 crores
He asked, “If there is courage in the ED, then the BJP’s office in Raipur at a cost of Rs 150 crore, where to check the money for the ‘Kushabhau Thackeray campus’ in Raipur? The Congress leader said, “The RSS has set up its office in Delhi at a cost of 500 crores. Why does the ED not investigate the source of this amount? ED is working like a subsidiary organization of BJP. Congress office can be investigated, so why should there not be a investigation of BJP’s offices?”
Meanwhile, Kedar Gupta, spokesperson of the ruling BJP state unit, said that several scams took place during the previous Bhupesh Baghel government and now the party office on the foundation of corruption has been attached. Gupta said, “There was continuous corruption in the reign of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel (2018 to 2023). Some are in jail, some on bail and some action is going on.” He said that the property worth crores of Kavasi Lakhma and his son was seized in the excise scam.
The BJP leader said, “The office of the Congress party in Sukma was also attached. I think this will be the first incident in the history of India when the office of a political party was attached. Finally the office that stood in the foundation of corruption.” Sources said the attached assets include Lakhma, his son Harish Lakhma and the assets of the Congress office building in Sukma district. Lakhma (72) has been lodged in Raipur’s Central Jail since the ED was arrested in January this year in the alleged liquor scam case.
The central agency raided Lakhma’s locations in Raipur, Sukma and Dhamtari districts in December 2024. Lakhma, a six -time MLA from Konta Assembly seat (Sukma district), has been an Excise Minister in the Congress government led by former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The ED said that the Chhattisgarh liquor scam resulted in heavy loss to the state treasury.
