Four officers and two employees were killed in an accident at a private steel plant on Friday in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. Police officials gave this information. He said that six people including a general manager were injured in this incident.
Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lal Umed Singh told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that the incident took place at the plant of Godavari Power and Ispat Limited located in Silatara area on the outskirts of the capital. Singh said that after receiving information about the incident at around 4.30 pm, the police team was sent to the spot and rescue operation was started.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Raipur district Lakhan Patle said, the furnace in the plant was closed for the last few days. On Friday, cleaning work was going on to remove a thick layer of slag (waste product) stored on the furnace wall and roof using high pressure water. Suddenly the thicker deposition of the slag collapsed, causing the people below.
He said that the bodies of six workers were removed from the rubble during the rescue operation. At the same time, six injured have been admitted to the hospital. An official of the plant management said that the incident took place around 3 pm and the injured were immediately taken to the health center inside the plant, after which they were sent to the hospital.
He said that the deceased have been identified as manager GL Prasanna Kumar and Kaligotla Prasanna Kumar, Assistant Manager Ghanshyam Ghormare and formless Malik and two assistants Tulsi Ram Bhatt and Narayan Sahu.
The official said that General Manager A Chakradhar Rao, senior technician Deepender Mahato, junior technician Chandra Prakash Patel and three other workers were injured in the incident.
An official statement said that Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed deep grief over the incident and directed the officials to ensure better treatment for the injured. The Chief Minister has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed to God to provide peace and condolences to the bereaved families.
