Emphasizing the modernization of the police force on scientific lines, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said that it is the need of the hour to facilitate people to solve their problems at their homes through online medium.
Launching a chat bot (95177-95178) for reporting missing and exploited women and children and inaugurating a workshop on rights of women and children at the Indian School of Business (ISB) here, the Chief Minister said Punjab Police has a proud legacy of making countless sacrifices in the service of the country. He said that by fulfilling its main duty of maintaining law and order, Punjab Police has always protected the interests of the country and its people. Bhagwant Mann said that the challenges for the police force have increased manifold in the changing scenario, for which comprehensive reforms in the methodology have become the need of the hour.
The Chief Minister said that apart from keeping a strict watch on law and order, the police force also needs to focus on community policing. He said that at present initiatives have been taken to remove many leaks and more such initiatives need to be taken to facilitate the people. Bhagwant Mann said that today is the age of science and technology. Therefore, there is a need to pay great attention to solving people’s problems at their homes through online facilities.
The Chief Minister said that the entire judicial system needs to be completely reformed and the police is the backbone of this system, which needs immediate reforms. He said that the purpose of our police reforms will be to change the moral values, culture, policies and ethics of the police organization so that the police can perform their duties according to democratic values, human rights and law. Bhagwant Mann said one of its aims is to enable the police to cope with other parts of the security sector, including management and oversight responsibilities.
Giving the example of Sangrur Parliamentary Constituency, the Chief Minister said that the state government has installed modern CCTV there to keep an eye on every corner of the district. Cameras have started to be installed. He announced that it will now be implemented across the state to reduce the workload on the police and effectively monitor the law and order situation. The Chief Minister appreciated the initiatives taken by the police force to modernize the department. He hoped that human trafficking is becoming a serious threat not only to the police, but to the entire society. Pointing out the need to strengthen the system of reconciliation at the village or house level to reduce the workload of the police, the Chief Minister said that while this will strengthen the social fabric in the state, it will also strengthen mutual love between people. will increase Bhagwant Mann said that this would help in eradicating various causes of social stigma and pave the way for establishing a society with equal opportunities for all. Describing the chat bot as a unique initiative to improve the police system, he said that a developing country like India needs WhatsApp chat bot and other online methods to solve people’s problems quickly.
Inviting women to come forward in every field, the Chief Minister said that the state government has taken unprecedented steps in this regard and appointed seven women as Deputy Commissioners and five as SSPs. appointed He said that we are proud that these officers are rendering exemplary service to the state and its people. Bhagwant Mann said that these officers are motivating more women to come forward and become breadwinners for their families, which will automatically solve social evils like dowry and infanticide and pave the way for women’s empowerment.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has already established 10 women police stations in Punjab to solve the problems faced by women. He said that these police stations are working well to ensure justice to women. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is considering establishing more such police stations across Punjab.
Reciting his poem ‘Neither I was killed before I was born, nor did I bear the pain of my birth’, the Chief Minister advocated equal opportunities for women in every field. He said that girls have surpassed boys in every field and if girls get a chance, they can raise flags of success in every field. Bhagwant Mann said that the youth are the foundation of the society and no effort is being spared to provide them with world-class education opportunities so that they become an integral part of the socio-economic development of the country.
Before this, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the department is committed to save not only children but also childhood. He said that various programs have been drawn up for the welfare of women and children and ‘Vidya Prakash, the beginning of return to school’ is one of them, which is gradually becoming a symbol of success.
