The Assam government has approved handing over the investigation into the suspected suicide case of Josita Das, Assistant Engineer of Public Works Department of Bongaigaon sub-division to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This decision was taken on Thursday in a meeting of the State Cabinet held at Public Service Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. A seven -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case. Videography of the scene was done and investigated by RFSL and a crime site officer. Inquiry, post -mortem, CDR analysis and conflict have been completed. Assam Chief Minister Sarma said that three accused have been arrested and a notice has been issued under Section 94 BNSS; Intensive investigation of the case is necessary due to public interest and potential inter-state relations. The state cabinet has approved the handing over the case to the CBI.

In addition, the Chief Minister of Assam said that the State Cabinet has approved the expansion of the scope of Mukhyamantri Jeevan Prerna Yojana, so that all full -time current research scholars, including Divyang scholars enrolled in government/public institutions of the State/Center in Assam, can be covered on 1 April 2021. By incorporating all existing full -time researchers, whether they have been researching for any reference year, the total number of potential beneficiaries will now increase from 1,300 to 9,953 and the revised financial outlay will be Rs 26.21 crore.
