World Athletics Championships: Neeraj Chopra won Gold Medal in javelin throw competition

Neeraj Chopra created history by winning the gold medal in the javelin throw event of the World Athletics Championships and became the first Indian athlete to achieve this feat. Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj took the top spot with a best throw of 88.17 meters in his second attempt. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won silver with a best throw of 87.82 meters and Czech Republic’s Yakub Walesh won bronze.

India’s Kishore Jena finished 5th, setting his personal best with a best throw of 84.77m. There D. P. Manu finished sixth, with a best throw of 84.14 metres. It may be mentioned that the visa of Jena, who is playing in the World Championship for the first time, was rejected by the Hungarian Embassy in Delhi, but he got the visa the next day. This was the first time that three Indians had made it to the final of a competition together in the World Championship.

This is the first gold medal in the world championship
This is India’s first gold medal and third medal overall in the history of the World Athletics Championship. In the previous session, Neeraj won silver and women’s long jumper Anju Babi George won bronze in 2003. India participated in the World Championship for the first time in 1983.

Now Neeraj Chopra has got all the titles in the game. He won four Diamond League titles and the Diamond League Champions Trophy last year, apart from gold medals at the Asian Games (2018), Commonwealth Games (2018). He was the Junior World Champion in 2016 and won the Asian Championship title in 2017.

Neeraj became the third player to win Olympic and World titles at the same time
Neeraj Chopra has become the third javelin thrower to win the Olympic and World titles at the same time. Before that, Czech Republic’s Jan Jelejny won the Olympic titles in 1992, 1996 and 2000, while the World Championships in 1993, 1995 and 2001.

After shooter Abhinav Bindra, Neeraj Chopra has become the second Indian to win Olympic and World Champion titles at the same time. Bindra won the World Championship at the age of 23 and the Olympic gold medal at the age of 25.
