DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh, was caught by the CBI team from Delhi and Chandigarh. After this, a 52-member CBI team is searching Bhullar’s Mohali office and his house in Sector-40 in Chandigarh, from where many important documents have been recovered. Bhullar is currently being interrogated at a secret location.
Meanwhile, sources close to the CBI have learned that more than Rs 1 crore cash has been recovered from Bhullar’s house. The cash was packed in three bags and a briefcase. After this, the CBI team had to order a money counting machine. Jewelery was also recovered.
Bhullar is reported to have been arrested from the Mohali DIG office, but the investigating agency is yet to issue a formal statement. Bhullar will be produced in Mohali CBI court tomorrow and remanded. According to CBI sources, the scrap dealer has given the names of some other officials besides DIG Bhullar in the complaint, against whom action may be taken soon.
This has created a stir in the Punjab Police. Bhullar’s father Mahal Singh Bhullar, a 2007 batch IPS officer, has been the DGP of Punjab. Bhullar’s brother Kuldeep Singh Bhullar has also been a Congress MLA. Bhullar was appointed DIG of Ropar range on 27 November 2024.

CBI arrested Bhullar after receiving a complaint of bribery. It is learned that Bhullar is accused of taking five lakh rupees every month. The team is interrogating other family members at his house in Sector 40, Chandigarh. It is being told that a diary containing the record of monthly payments has been recovered from Bhullar. This action has been taken in a case related to a scrap businessman in Mandi Gobindgarh. The dealer had lodged a complaint with the CBI against the DIG. After the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested him.
