Case registered for the first time under the revised MCOCA on the drug trafficking gang in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, the police have registered a case against an organized gang of drug smugglers for the first time after the revised MCOCA law came into force. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

An official said that on August 7, the Anti -Drug Cell (ANC) of Bandra arrested three smugglers on charges of having 766 grams of Mefedron (a type of drug), while two others, including the gang leader, are absconding.

He said that he was allegedly involved in the manufacture and smuggling of drugs. Considering the activities of the gang, ANC officials proposed to impose sections of the Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA).

Police said this is the first case in Maharashtra after a recent amendment in MCOCA. The Maharashtra Legislature had passed a bill to bring drug -related crimes and drug -related crimes under the purview of MCOCA (Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act). Under this amended law, it will be difficult for drug smugglers to get bail after arrest.
