Car bomb blast in Colombia, 13 people killed in helicopter attack

At least 13 people have died in a bomb blast in a car in Colombia and an attack on a police helicopter. The authorities gave this information. President Gustavo Petro has blamed the rebels of Columbia’s Revolutionary Armed Forces for both the incidents on Thursday, commonly known as ‘FARC’.

Petro said on ‘X’ that eight police officers were killed in the helicopter attack. He said that the aircraft was carrying personnel to destroy the Coca leaf crops in the Antioquia region of Northern Columbia. Coca leaf is used as a raw material for cocaine.

Antioquare Governor Andres Julian said on ‘X’ that a drone attacked the helicopter while flying over the Koka leaf crops. Columbia Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez said that preliminary information indicates that the aircraft caught fire due to the attack.

Meanwhile, officials of South-Western city of Cali said that a vehicle filled with explosives exploded near a military aviation school, killing five people and injuring more than 30 people.

Petro initially convicted the country’s largest drug smuggling gang ‘Gulf Clan’ for the helicopter attack. FARC rebel revolutionary and members of Gulf Clan are active in Antioquia. FARC rejected the peace agreement with the government in 2016.
