The 17th BRICS summit has strongly advocated the inclusion of India and Brazil as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which emphasizes the need to make the global body more democratic, representative and effective. In a joint declaration, leaders of BRICS countries confirmed their commitment to the UN, especially the widespread reforms of the Security Council. The announcement stressed the immediate need to increase representation from developing countries, especially global south, to ensure that the council could adequately respond to the current global challenges.

Efforts to make United Nations more representative
The announcement stated that we repeat our support for the widespread reform of the United Nations, including its Security Council to make it more democratic, representative, effective and efficient. We emphasize the need for more representation of developing countries in the council, including the emerging economies of Africa, Asia and Latin America, to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities. The document clearly supported the legitimate aspirations of the African countries, as exposed to the Azulvini consensus and the Sirte Declaration, calling for their proper representation in international decision -making processes.

Terrorist attacks condemned
BRICS countries also strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. The manifesto stressed the policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism and rejected the use of double standards in dealing with this threat. The leaders said that we emphasize the primary responsibility of the states in combating terrorist threats and call on all countries to fulfill their obligations under international law.
