Chinese President Xi Jinping will not attend the BRICS summit to be held in Brazil next month, it is not a common news as it will be the first absence of Jinping in the BRICS meeting since 12 years ago. In place of Jinping, his confidant and Chinese Prime Minister Lee Kiang will participate in this conference to be held on July 6-7. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend this conference. There is speculation that Prime Minister Modi for the State Bhoj (State Dinner) after the BRICS conference by Brazil has pierced the Chinese President, so he is not participating in this conference.
It is believed in diplomatic circles that Xi could appear in a “supporting role” on sharing the stage with Modi in the event, so he also avoided coming here. China is currently observing giving additional respect to Prime Minister Modi as a inequality in diplomatic balance amidst stressful relations with India and border disputes. Let us tell you that during the BRICS conference, there is usually dialogue between the major leaders of the member countries at the same level, but giving prominence to a single leader can make other member countries uncomfortable. According to experts, the incident also exposes the ongoing tension in India-China relations once again. Although India and China have worked together on many multilateral forums in the past, there has been a decrease in mutual trust due to issues such as flock struggle and business competition. However, China has told Brazil that President Xi will not be able to attend the summit due to “busyness of other programs”.

On the other hand, earlier it was believed that there may be a bilateral meeting of Prime Minister Modi and the Chinese President in this conference, but now it is expected that the next possible meeting between the two leaders could be held in the SCO conference to be held in China, provided PM Modi participate in it. Let us tell you that at this time the focus of China focuses on the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) to be held in late August or early September, which will be hosted by China itself. Let us tell you that BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Recently expanding this group, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates have also been made members.
Let us also tell you that Russian President Vladimir Putin will also not attend the BRICS summit. Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy advisor of Kremlin in Moscow, announced, “Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will represent Russia at the upcoming BRICS summit in Brazil, while Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the event through video link. Is hosting BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The group has been expanded with five additional member countries Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Let us also tell you that Putin did not attend the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa in the year 2023 due to the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Ukraine’s request. Like South Africa, Brazil is also a signator of the ICC and is bound to work on its orders.
