In 2017, Natarajan Chandrasekaran joined Tata Sons at a time when there was turmoil in the boardroom during Cyrus Mistry’s tenure. Born into a farming family in 1963 in Mohanoor village, Tamil Nadu, N. Chandrasekaran had an inclination towards computer programming since his childhood.
N. Chandrasekaran completed his degree in Applied Sciences from the Coimbatore Institute of Technology after completing his education in a government school. He has a Master’s degree in Computer Application from Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli.
After completing his engineering, Natarajan Chandrasekaran joined TCS in 1987 as an intern. Meanwhile, in the next two decades, he continued to climb the ladder of success.
In September 2007, he was inducted into the TCS board and given charge as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Due to his hard work and determination, N. Chandrasekaran became the CEO in October 2009. At the age of 46, he became one of the youngest CEOs of the Tata Group, S. replaced Ramdurai.
Under the guidance of Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the Tata Group managed to achieve a consolidated profit of Rs 64,267 crore in 2022 from Rs 36,728 crore in 2017. In the last 5 years, Tata Group’s income increased from Rs 6.37 lakh crore to Rs 9.44 lakh crore in 2017.
N Chandrasekaran had an annual salary package of Rs 65 crore in 2019, while the Tata Group chairman got a package of Rs 109 crore in 2021-2022. Along with this, he became the highest paid business executive in India.
In 2020, N Chandrasekaran bought a duplex flat in Mumbai’s Pedder Road luxury tower for Rs 98 crore. At that time, the rent of this flat spread over 6000 square feet was 20 lakh rupees per month.
