Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described the relations between India and Japan as a bond of culture and faith. Addressing a public meeting after flagging off Suzuki’s first global strategic battery electric vehicle (BEV) ‘E-Vitara’ at Suzuki Motor Plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad, the Prime Minister said that India’s relations with Suzuki have reached the speed of the bullet train. He inaugurated the lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility for strong hybrid electric vehicles, which is a joint venture of Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki.
The Prime Minister said that I am going to Japan next week. The relations between India and Japan go beyond diplomatic relations, it is a bond of culture and faith. We see our progress reflected in each other’s development. Our journey started with Maruti Suzuki has now reached the speed of the bullet train. The Prime Minister said that the major initiative to realize the industrial capacity of India-Japan partnership started here in Gujarat. I remember when we started the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 20 years ago, Japan was a major partner. Just think, a small state of a developing country is attracting investment by making developed countries like Japan its partner, showing how strong the foundation of India-Japan relations is.

Modi Avoiding that in the beginning, when our Japanese partners used to come, I was starting to understand them, and my understanding grew. I realized that the nature of Japanese people is such that their cultural ecosystem is their first priority. They prefer Japanese food. Gujaratis have their own habits, when they are in Gujarat, they can eat restaurant food, but when they are out, they still prefer Gujarati dishes.
Paying his expression tribute to the late Osamu Suzuki, the Prime Minister said that the Government of India had the distinction of honoring him with Padma Vibhushan. He said that he is happy to see the widespread expansion of Osamu Suzuki’s vision for Maruti Suzuki India. Underlining that the most important component of the electric vehicle ecosystem is the battery, the Prime Minister said that until a few years ago, the batteries were fully imported in India. He said that to strengthen electric vehicle manufacturing, it is necessary for India to start domestic battery production. Prime Minister Modi reminded that in 2017, the foundation of the TDSG battery plant was laid with this vision.
On Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to Japan, Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt said that the annual summit between India and Japan represents the highest level dialogue mechanisms between the two countries and this India-Japanese carries forward the agenda of special strategic and global partnerships. Prime Minister Modi has already met Prime Minister Ishiba during international programs … India and Japan are two countries that have equal value, trust and strategic views on many issues. They are among the two leading democracy of Asia and the top five economies in the world.

He said that in the last decade, the scope and ambition of our bilateral relations has increased continuously and today it includes trade and investment, defense and security, science and technology, infrastructure and dynamics, people’s contact with people and lively cultural engagement between the two sides. Therefore, the 15th summit will give both Prime Ministers an opportunity to review these relationships, take stock of progress in many areas and exchange ideas on regional and global issues of importance in the last few years. It will also be an opportunity to bring more flexibility in relationships and start several new initiatives to face emerging opportunities and challenges.
