BJP has expressed confidence that the selected candidates will effectively represent the interests of Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha. The party said that the selection of these candidates will further strengthen the organizational presence and political vision of the BJP in the Union Territory.
Four Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir were lying vacant since February 2021, because the assembly did not exist at that time. After the recent assembly elections, voting for these seats has been scheduled for October 24. According to political analysts, based on party lines in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the BJP is expected to win one seat, while the National Conference (NC)-led alliance has a stranglehold on three seats.
