Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav on Monday criticized Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s remarks in which he said that Lord Hanuman had first gone in the infection. He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) always tries to take credit for everything. The Samajwadi Party leader also congratulated Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently became the first Indian to travel to the International Space Station under the Axiaom-4 mission.

Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, the SP leader said that he has achieved a major achievement. He must have worked hard for so many years and would have taken rigorous training, after which he has got this success. This is a major achievement for the country, personally for them and for their family. His visit to space has made the country proud. The country’s resources were used. The SP chief emphasized that such missions are the result of dedication of scientists and commitment of astronauts rather than a political party.
Without naming Anurag Thakur directly, Yadav took a scathing sarcasm at the ruling party. He said, “BJP tries to take credit for everything. Now they are saying that our Lord Hanuman went first in space. We always say that all our gods live in space.” The dispute began when BJP MP Anurag Thakur shared a post on X, in which he was talking to school children on National Space Day, “Who was the first person to travel to space?” When the students replied, “Neil Armstrong,” said Thakur, “I think Hanuman ji was the first to travel to space.”

Talking to students at Sri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Una, Himachal Pradesh, the BJP leader argued that the traditions of knowledge should move beyond the textbooks given to us by the British. He urged teachers to look at “our Vedas, our textbooks and our knowledge”, and said that this would give students an opportunity to see “a lot”. Indian astronaut group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who returned to Earth on 15 July after completing NASA’s Ax-4 (AX-4) Space Mission, reached New Delhi on August 17. Shukla was part of NASA’s Ex-4 Space Mission, which flew from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA on 25 June. He returned to Earth on 15 July, descending from the coast of California. He became the first Indian to travel to space in 41 years.
