The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to take strict action in the matter, terming the death of a 23 -year -old student of teaching training course in Kerala as “the biggest example of conversion”.
The BJP made this demand at a time when the girl’s family alleged that her lover and her relatives had pressurized the student to adopt Islam religion. BJP’s state unit vice president Sean George said that the case has shook the conscience of Kerala. ”
A march was taken out to the Kothamangalam police station under the leadership of BJP leader P.C. George, demanding justice to the girl’s family and she was described as the latest victim of “Love Jihad”.
The term “love jihad” is used by right-wing activists, in which they claim that non-Muslim women are converted to convert to relationships or marriages on the pretext of love.
Another BJP leader B.K. Gopalakrishnan described the incident as “the biggest example of pressurizing for conversion” and appealed to the Christian churches to come forward on the issue, so that “Christian girls do not have to go through a similar situation”.
A student named Sona Aldoj, a resident of Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district, was found hanging in her house on Saturday. In a note recovered from the spot, Sona accused her boyfriend Rameez and her family and friends of pressure and assaulted her to convert her for marriage and mentally tortured her.
