BIHAR: VLTD system caught 3,552 vehicles overspeeding in one and a half years

The traffic police as well as the vehicle location tracking system (VLTD) of the Transport Department in Bihar is handling proper monitoring on the roads. A total of 54,679 vehicles are being tracked in real time from the department’s command and control center. The system has caught a total of 3,552 vehicles overspeeding in the last one and a half years. This includes 2,007 vehicles in the financial year 2024-25, with the maximum 1,051 cabs at more than 100 kmph. Apart from this, 862 buses, 61 maxi cabs and 33 cars have also violated the speed limit.

Department’s strictness on overspeeding

In the current financial year 2025-26, 1,545 public vehicles have broken the rules of overseas. These include 623 cabs, 583 buses, 128 maxi cabs, 118 omni bus and 93 cars. Instructions have been sent to the District Transport Officers (DTOs) of the respective districts for issuing challans against these vehicles.

Intensive investigation in Patna

According to the data, the capital Patna is at the forefront in terms of overseasing. In the last financial year, 472 vehicles in Patna driven at high speed, while 209 vehicles in Muzaffarpur and 132 vehicles in Motihari have been caught by the VLTD system breaking the rules. In the current financial year also, 396 vehicles in Patna, 132 in Gaya and 123 in Muzaffarpur have violated the speed limit.

Security from VLTD

The Transport Department started monitoring passenger vehicles from the year 2022 through VLTD system. This technology has been started to ensure safe journey of women and children, especially. This provides not only the speed of vehicles, but also their current location and route.
