Indian Railways is going to start exporting engines to the coastal country of West Africa, taking an important step towards increasing its revenue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first locomotive for exports at the Diesel Locomotive factory in Marhaura in Saran district on 20 June. Prime Minister Modi will also flag the Vande Bharat train between Pataliputra (Bihar) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). This is the first time the Indian Railways will export locomotives, which will increase its revenue.
A senior Railway Ministry official said that earlier the export line of credit was done, which was a kind of assistance for development projects in various countries. These engines were sent to countries like Bangladesh, Mozambic. The official said that a total of 150 engines will be supplied to Guinea in three years. The Marhora Factory is built on the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model and is run by the joint venture of the American company Webtech and joint venture of Indian Railways.
The official said, “This factory has won bids in the global tender issued by Guinea. These engines will be used for freight from the iron ore mines of the country. There will also be a distributed power wireless control system (DPWCS), which will allow wireless control of several engines in a train.
