The source said Sahni contacted Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation. Bhattacharya then approached Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on the issue and insisted that the VIPs should be accommodated. Sources said that Rahul Gandhi discussed this matter with the top leadership of RJD and also spoke to Sahni. He said that after this intervention, the VIP chief wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi and expressed his commitment to remain in the ‘Grand Alliance’. In the letter, the VIP chief said that he was assured of being given a certain number of seats, which was not fulfilled.

According to the source, he said numbers do not matter as they are part of the alliance because of ideology and want to fight against communal and divisive forces. Sahni is a leader of the Nishad community in Bihar, which constitutes about 2.5 percent of the state’s population.
