Ashok Gehlot announced that Tejashwi Yadav will be the chief ministerial candidate of the grand alliance in Bihar elections.Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has been declared the chief ministerial candidate of the Grand Alliance ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. VIP chief Mukesh Sahni has been declared the Deputy Chief Ministerial candidate. Congress observer for Bihar elections Ashok Gehlot made this announcement while addressing a press conference in Patna on Thursday, October 23.

Gehlot said, “…we want to ask Amit Shah ji and his party president, who is the chief ministerial face of your alliance? This is our demand because we saw that the election was fought under the leadership of the then chief minister Eknath Shinde, but later we came to know that someone else was chosen as the chief minister.”
At the joint press conference of the Grand Alliance at Hotel Maurya on Thursday, Gehlot said, “We have decided to contest the elections by making Tejashwi Yadav the chief ministerial candidate.”Gehlot also announced that Vikassheel Insaan Party’s Mukesh Sahni would be the deputy chief ministerial candidate.All seven parties of the grand alliance, including the Congress and the Left parties, have agreed to support Tejashwi’s leadership for the two-phase elections.

The top leaders of the Grand Alliance showed unity in the press conference amid the ongoing tussle in the alliance regarding seat distribution.In a last ditch effort to resolve the crisis, senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot reached Patna on October 22 to mediate between the alliance partners. Gehlot also met RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav to reduce tensions in the alliance comprising major parties like RJD and Congress.
This development has happened on the last day of withdrawal of nominations for the second phase of elections to be held on October 11. The first phase will take place on October 6. Counting of votes will take place on October 14.Tejashwi asked the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) why a joint conference of parties like BJP and Janata Dal United was not held as the elections approached.

The RJD leader also reacted to the ruling alliance’s return to ‘Jungle Raj’ allegations.Tejashwi saidI want to tell people that Tejashwi will not compromise with corruption and law and order. I also want to tell all the parties of the Grand Alliance that we will create a new Bihar.
