The Bihar government has taken a major initiative to connect villages with cities and strengthen the infrastructure at the village level. Under the ambitious “Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana” of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the construction of a total of 704 new bridges across the state will be started from September 10 in the financial year 2025-26. The government is spending a total amount of Rs 3,688 crore on this scheme. Due to which thousands of villages of the state will get permanent and safe road connectivity.

In fact, the Rural Affairs Department has clearly issued instructions to the sensors constructing roads and bridges in rural areas that strict action will be taken against them if they do not start the work of rural roads and bridges from 10 September. Along with confiscation of their bail amount, they will be blacklisted. The objective of the Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Scheme Scheme is to establish uninterrupted road connectivity in those rural areas of the state, where even today, traffic is disrupted due to rain, floods or old dilapidated bridges. Under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana, not only old and dilapidated bridges, new and strong bridges will be built, but those routes will be linked to bridges, where the roads are still incomplete due to the missing bridge. Also, bridges damaged by floods or other natural disasters are being re -erected. In many rural areas of the state, bridges are already built but the approach road has not been constructed.
Now there will also be the incomplete construction work of the bridges, so that people do not face any kind of trouble in traffic. The districts of the state where administrative approval has been given to the construction of these bridges, including North Bihar as well as the districts of South Bihar. Most of the bridges are being constructed in East Champaran. A total of 56 bridges have been approved in East Champaran. Similarly, 38 in Darbhanga, 30-30 in Gaya, Siwan and Sitamarhi, 28-28 in Saran and Vaishali, 27-27 in Bhagalpur and Gopalganj, 26-26 in Rohtas and Sheikhpura, 26-26 in Rohtas and Sheikhpura, 24 in Nalanda, 20 in Begusarai and 18 in capital Patna.
Public demand gets priority
This scheme is also special because the government has given priority to the demand of the general public. Both the proposals in the program “Chief Minister in the court of the public” and public announcements made by the Chief Minister have been included in the scheme. That is, this scheme is not just a departmental initiative but a scheme made of public participation.

The conditions of villages will change
The government believes that this scheme is not just the construction of bridges, but the foundation stone of social and economic development of villages. It will be easy for the farmers to reach their products to the market. Children will have a safe and easy route available for going to school and people will be able to reach large hospitals of cities for treatment in emergency.
