Big update about Vice Presidential election, final list of electoral college ready

The Election Commission of India said on Thursday that it would soon announce the election schedule for the post of Vice President. The Election Commission said that it has finalized the list of electorate for the 2025 Vice Presidential election. According to Article 66 (1) of the Constitution, the Vice President of India is elected by an electoral college, consisting of elected members of the Rajya Sabha, nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and elected members of the Lok Sabha.

According to Article 66 (1) of the Constitution, the Vice President of India is elected by an electoral college, consisting of elected members of the Rajya Sabha, nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and elected members of the Lok Sabha. In compliance with the Rule 40 of the President and Vice President Election Rules, 1974, the Election Commission has an update list of members of this electoral college, including their latest addresses, to prepare and maintain. Accordingly, the Commission has finalized the list of electorate for the Vice Presidential Election, 2025. These members have been listed in a continuous order, organized in Varnanukram on the basis of the state/union territory of their respective houses. The list of electoral circle will be available to buy at a counter set up in the Election Commission of India from the date of notification, which is likely to be announced soon.
The announcement was made after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on July 21, which has led to competition for his successor. 74 -year -old Dhankar took over in August 2022 and had his term till 2027. After a sudden resignation of Dhankhar, a shocking incident for the government in the Rajya Sabha came to light when he was assigned a notice of a proposal sponsored by the opposition to remove Allahabad High Court Judge Yashwant Verma and mentioned it in the House.

How is the Vice President election?

According to Article 63 to 71 of the Constitution and according to Vice President (Election) Rules, 1974, formal elections are required within 60 days of Dhankar’s resignation and before 19 September 2025. The electoral college or electoral college consists of all members of both the houses of Parliament – the renovated and nominated – which are selected through single transitional vote through proportional representation systems. MPs will cast single transferable votes through secret voting.
