This news is very important for you if you are also fond of watching TV. From December 1, TV viewers could be in for a big shock, as TV channel bills are set to rise.
In fact, some channels have been taken out of the book by the country’s leading broadcasting networks Zee, Star, Sony and Viacom18. The TV viewers will now have to pay the price. TV viewers may now have to spend up to 50% more to watch those channels. With the implementation of the new tariff order of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), their prices are going up.

It may be recalled that TRAI had in March 2017 issued a new tariff order regarding the prices of TV channels. This was followed by the release of NTO 2.0 in January 2020. It said NTO 2.0 would give viewers the option and freedom to choose and pay only for the channels they want to watch.
Note that the monthly value of the channel offered in the book of broadcast networks was kept between Rs. 15-25, but in the new tariff order of TRAI, the minimum price has been fixed at Rs. In order to reduce the losses in such a situation, the networks are considering raising the prices of some popular channels by taking them out of the book. TV viewers will have to pay 35 to 50 per cent more to watch popular channels like Star Plus, Colors, Zee TV, Sony.
