The strike was called in protest of the government’s announcement to privatize two public sector banks.
State Bank of India (SBI), meanwhile, said in a statement to the market that it had been informed by the Association of Indian Banks that the U.S. F. B. U.S. Has called for joining the strike on December 16 and 17, 2021. S. B. I. “We will do our best to ensure smooth functioning but the strike could affect the functioning of our bank,” he said.
Sanjay Das, general secretary, All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOC), said privatization of public sector banks would affect priority sectors of the economy, as well as make it difficult for self-help groups and the rural economy to lend. According to him, 70 per cent of the total deposits in the country are held by public sector banks and handing them over to private hands would jeopardize the public money deposited in these banks. It may be recalled that in the 2021 budget speech, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that two public sector banks would be privatized during the current financial year.
