As part of the investigation of the case, the police registered a case under several sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The case is related to a dispute on September 13, when a concrete mixer truck being run by the victim Prahlad Kumar allegedly collided with Dilip Khedkar’s Toyota Land Cruiser. After the incident, Khedkar and Salaunkhe kidnapped Kumar and took him to Pune instead of being taken to the police station, as claimed. Officials said after the initial debate, Kumar was forcibly taken from Navi Mumbai to a bungalow in Pune in Pune.

The police have not yet recovered the vehicle used in the kidnapping and further inquiries are going on. Investigators believe that Manorama Khedkar played a role in the incident, allegedly left dogs to obstruct the police and helped her husband and Salunkhe to flee. During the police action at the bungalow in Pune, the officials could not initially go inside, as Manorama Khedkar refused to open the gate. The kidnapped person, Kumar, was eventually saved by the police by holding it indoors.
