What is the Resistance Front (TRF)?
The Resistance Front was formed in 2019 as an associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba and was banned by the central government in 2023. It has been actively involved in online recruitment of youth, helping terrorists infiltrate and smuggling weapons and drugs from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir.
TRF has also taken responsibility for several attacks targeting citizens, political leaders and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Its founder and commander Sheikh Sajjad Gul has been declared a terrorist under the illegal activities (prevention) Act, 1967.
According to security agencies, TRF’s campaigns have the support of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which uses this group as part of its strategy to keep the Kashmir region unstable. The attack on April 22, called “Mini Switzerland”, in Basaron Valley, has been said to be the biggest terrorist attack on citizens in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bomb blast.
