Lucknow. A special NIA (National Investigation Agency) court on Tuesday awarded death sentence to seven ISIS terrorists in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train blast case. Nine people were seriously injured in the blast. Another accused was sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2017 case.

Those sentenced to death include Mohd Faisal, Ghaus Mohd Khan, Mohd Azhar, Atiq Muzaffar, Mohd Danish, Mohd Syed Mir Hussain and Asif Iqbal alias Roki. Mohammad Atif alias Asif Irani was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Pronouncing the sentence, Justice V S Tripathi said that this case falls in the rarest of rare category and the culprits deserve the harshest punishment. The court had convicted the accused on February 24 and fixed Tuesday for the pronouncement of the verdict.

The chargesheet in this case was filed on August 31, 2017. The chargesheet named another accused Saifullah, who was killed in an encounter in Lucknow’s Dubagga area. (agency)
