The central government on Wednesday extended the term of CBI Director Praveen Sood for one year. Sood held the post on 25 May 2023. Officials said that the decision to extend his tenure was taken in a meeting of the selection committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which included CJI Sanjeev Khanna of India and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
Based on the recommendations of the selection committee, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the increase of Sud’s tenure from May 24 and for a period of one year. Sood is a 1986 batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre. He was working as Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka when he was named Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
