The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Sonu Sood in the advertisement and promotion of illegal betting app 1xbet.Earlier this week, ED had recorded statements of celebrities like Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh and Anveshi Jain in the PMLA case.In January, the Ministry of Home Affairs gave FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) license to Bollywood actor Sonu Sood’s NGO – Sood Charity Foundation.

Sonu Sood appeared before ED in the money laundering case related to betting app

Actor Sonu Sood appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday for questioning in the money laundering case related to an online betting app called ‘1 Xbate’. The officers provided this information. Sood (52) reached the ED’s office in Central Delhi at around 12 noon. Officials said that the investigating officer of the case would interrogate the actor Sood and record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Investigation related to ‘1 Xbate’ betting app

The federal investigative agency has questioned former cricketers Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh, besides Trinamool Congress (TMC) former MP and actress Mimi Chakraborty and Bengali actor Ankush Hazra in the last few weeks as part of this investigation. The agency has also questioned some women ‘social media influencers’ under this investigation.

‘1 Xbate’ is part of an ED’s comprehensive investigation against the betting app, which is accused of cheating crores of rupees and stealing huge amounts of direct and indirect taxes from many people. In the future, some more players, film actors and celebrities are expected to be questioned by the agency.

Sources said that the ED may soon start the process of attaching the property of those individuals who used the income of the alleged crime arising from the propagation activities of the app. Sources said that after this the charge sheet will be filed in the court.

According to sources, the purpose of the investigation of the agency is to know from the famous celebrities how the betting company contacted them to get support from them. The central government has recently banned ‘online gaming’ in India by bringing a law. The ED has recently taken a policy decision to create a “focused strategy” to investigate alleged illegal betting and financial crimes related to gaming.
