IPL Team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) owner Royal Challengers Sports Limited (RCSL) and Program organizer DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited have demanded the cancellation of the FIR of Karnataka Supreme Court demanding the cancellation of the FIR against them after a tragic stampede outside the M Chinnaswami Stadium on 4 June. 11 people were killed in the stampede.
RCSL made false allegations
RCSL in its petition claimed that he had no role in the mismanagement of the crowd, causing a stampede. The company claimed that it made a clear public announcement through social media that only limited passes were available for the Vijay Utsav program and even free passes required pre-regulation. This further alleged that the delay in opening the gate of the stadium – the scheduled time from 1:45 pm to 3:00 pm – the deadly crowd gathered.
DNA Entertainment convicts police lapse
DNA Entertainment Networks alleged in a separate petition that the incident occurred due to the failure of the police and state officials in managing a huge crowd of more than 3 lakh people. The petition said that inadequate police deployment and lathicharge caused panic among the attendees, causing a stampede on public roads and footpaths outside the stadium. The company also claimed that most of the police forces were deployed in Vidhan Saudha, causing no adequate number of police forces in the stadium area.
