The stampede that visited the RCB’s IPL victory outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru shook the entire city. In this tragic accident, 11 people lost their lives and many others were injured. This incident put only sports lovers, but the entire Karnataka in deep shock.
At the same time, after the accident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took strict steps and ordered action against the responsible people. On Friday, the Bengaluru police arrested RCB’s marketing and revenue head Nikhil Sosh, Kiran Kumar, Senior Event Manager of DNA Entertainment Network and Vice President Sunil Mattheya.
The accident occurred when thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium to celebrate RCB’s IPL victory. The celebration was done by RCB, DNA Entertainment Network and Karnataka State Cricket Association. But the festival turned into a tragedy due to heavy lapse in mob management and lack of security arrangements. According to eyewitnesses, enough police forces were not deployed to control the crowd and the organizers did not properly assess the number of crowds.
Taking this incident seriously, CM Siddaramaiah took several important decisions in the cabinet meeting on Thursday. He announced to set up a solo-judicial commission under the chairmanship of retired judge Michael de Kunha of Karnataka High Court to investigate the incident.
The Commission has been directed to submit its report within 30 days. Along with this, CM suspended several senior officers of Bangalore Police with immediate effect. Among them, Bangalore Police Commissioner B.K. Dayanand, Additional Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Vikas, DCP Shekhar H. Tekkanwar, Inspector of Kabban Park Police Station and other lower level officials are included.
