The Supreme Court on May 7 stayed the High Court’s order on the appointments made by the State School Services Commission (SSC).
The Supreme Court has upheld the Kolkata High Court’s decision related to West Bengal’s school recruitment scam.
The School Selection Commission (SSC) in West Bengal appointed 25 thousand teachers and non-teachers in 2016. The High Court declared the appointments illegal.
The Supreme Court has accepted the High Court investigation. The apex court said that the entire process was cheated. There is no scope for improvement.
The case was heard by the bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar in the Supreme Court. Petitions were filed against the High Court’s decision in the apex court.
These pets stated that the High Court’s decision should be rejected. In the judgment, the Chief Justice said, ‘I believe that the entire selection process was deteriorated. A large -scale manipulation and fraud were done. The intention of hiding the case has made the selection process so tarnished that it cannot be improved. The validity and reliability of the selection process is over.
On the disabled candidates, the bench said that the candidates will continue to get salary till the new selection. Also, such candidates will be allowed to participate in the new selection process.
The Chief Justice said, ‘The candidates who are not guilty and were working in various departments of the state government before selection. These candidates will have the right to go to the previous departments, such applications will be taken action within 3 months.
Along with this, the CBI investigation will hear the petition challenging the order of the Calcutta High Court on April 4.
Now know what is the whole matter
In 2016, the West Bengal government recruited teaching and non-teaching staff for government and aided schools through the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLCT). Then more than 23 lakh people took the recruitment examination for 24,640 vacant posts.
In this recruitment, it is accused of taking bribe from 5 to 15 lakh rupees. The Calcutta High Court had received several complaints in the case. In the case of irregularities in recruitment, CBI arrested former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, his close Arpita Mukherjee and some SSC officials. Arpita was a model by profession.
The ED arrested Partha Chatterjee (former Education Minister) on 23 July 2022 in the teacher recruitment scam. After this, Rs 49 crore cash and jewelery were found in the raid on his close model Arpita Mukherjee’s house.

The ED raided 14 places on July 22, 2022, including Partha Chatterjee’s bases. Information related to a Bengal model Arpita Mukherjee was also revealed in the scam. During the raid, documents of Arpita Mukherjee’s property were found.
About 21 crore rupees cash, 60 lakh foreign currency, 20 phones were received from Arpita’s flat. On July 24, ED arrested Arpita and Partha.
After this, in another raid, Rs 27.9 crore cash was received again from Arpita’s house. It had bundles of 2000 rupees and 500 rupee notes. Apart from this, gold of Rs 4.31 crore was received. This included 3 gold bricks of 1-1 kg, 6 kg of half kg and other jewelery.
On September 30, the first CBI charge sheet was filed in the case
The CBI introduced the first charge sheet on 30 September 2024 last year. It had names of 16 people including former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee. Parth Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee were then in the grip of ED. Partha has been in jail since 23 July 2022, his bail petitions have been dismissed. TMC MLA and former Chairman of State Primary Education Board Manik Bhattacharya was arrested by ED on 11 October.
