Gandhinagar. The Gujarat Assembly on Friday passed a resolution urging the Center to take strong action against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for tarnishing the image and popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by making a documentary on the 2002 riots in the state.

The documentary claims to explore certain aspects of the post-Godhra train burning riots. Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time of the riots. The documentary was banned in India shortly after its release.
Patel had moved the resolution with the support of BJP MLAs Manisha Vakil, Amit Thaker, Dhavalsingh Zala and minister Harsh Shanghvi. The resolution was passed by voice vote in the absence of the Congress MLAs who were thrown out of the House today.

Patel said in the assembly, “If someone behaves or acts like this (BBC), it cannot be taken lightly. BBC is losing its credibility and working with hidden agenda against India and Government of India. Therefore, this House requests the Central Government to take strict action against the BBC documentary on the unbelievable aspects shown in it.” (agency)
