Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, said that seven northeastern states of India are landlocked (surrounded by land). Bangladesh is the only patron of the sea of that entire region (Guardian).

Mohammad Yunus was recently on a four -day official visit to China. Here he invited China to invest in Bangladesh territory.

Yunus said that the North East states of India, called Seven Sisters, are land locked. They do not have a way to reach the sea. Bangladesh is the only sea guardian in that region. This gives a big opportunity to invest.

PM Modi’s Economic Advisory Council objected Economists and members of Prime Minister Modi’s Economic Advisory Council, Sanjeev Sanyal Mohammad Yunus, raised questions, objecting to this statement.

Sanjeev Sanyal said that China is free to invest in Bangladesh, but the appeal made by Yunus to be landlocked in the northeastern states of India is surprising.

Yunus said- the opportunity should be fully used Yunus said that the Chinese economy can expand here- things can be made, produced and sold in this area. It is a production house, we should use this opportunity.

Many projects to increase connectivity in the Northeast are running Yunus’s statement has completely ignored the fact that India is investing hugely to increase connectivity in North under its Act East Policy. In this, Kaladan is promoting connectivity through projects like multi-modal transit transport project.

Along with this, the road network connecting Northeast India to Myanmar and South-East Asia is constructing.

Yunus’s statement is also surprising because the Doklam is a Siligudi Corridor in the Northeast. Which is considered to be the chicken noble of India. This corridor associates 7 states of North-East with India with 60 km long and 22 km wide. India is very vigilant about the security of its area.
