The third round of tariff dialogue between Bangladesh-America began at Washington DC, emphasizing on strengthening commercial relations. During this period, Bangladesh has already signed an agreement to buy 700,000 tonnes of wheat from the US, as well as plans to increase LNG imports and buy 25 Boeing aircraft. This dialogue will promote trade and food security between the two countries.
Bangladesh Chief Advisor Press Wing said in a statement on Wednesday that the third round of talks on the Bangladesh-America tariff issue officially started on Tuesday at 2:00 pm on Tuesday. The informal discussion started at 12:30 pm and will continue till 5:30 pm. This discussion will resume local time on Wednesday at 9 am. The delegation of Bangladesh reached Washington on Tuesday morning. The Bangladeshi team is headed by Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin, and National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman is in the US capital for a three -day dialogue. Officials of various ministries and departments participated in the meeting through virtual medium from Dhaka.

Assistant Business Representative Brendon Lynch is leading the American delegation. He is accompanied by officials of the Department of Trade and Customs. Bangladesh has already signed an agreement to buy 700,000 tonnes of wheat annually from the US. According to local media in Bangladesh, plans are underway to increase LNG imports and buy 25 Boeing aircraft from the US. On a memorandum of agreement for importing wheat, Mohammad Abul Humayun Kabir, Director General of Food Department from the Bangladesh Government and Joseph, Vice President of American Wheat Association from the United States. Sowar signed in the presence of Bangladesh Food Advisor Ali Imam Majumdar.

Speaking at the program, Food Advisor Ali Imam Mazumdar said that this memorandum will create opportunities to build confidence building and broader business cooperation between Bangladesh and the US and benefit the people of both countries. The interim government of Bangladesh said in a statement that this MoU has been signed between Bangladesh and the United States to ensure the country’s overall food security, nutrition quality and food supply. On the same day, the US announced that it would continue joint military exercises with Bangladesh.
