Bangladesh: Three people died in communal violence in southeastern district

At least three people were killed and dozens of people were injured in a clash between tribals and Bengali community members despite alleged gang rape of a tribal girl in the south-eastern district of Bangladesh. The officers provided this information.

The police confirmed the death of three people but did not reveal their identity. At the same time, local residents and eyewitnesses said that both sides became violent and set fire to each other’s shops and houses in Khagrachari hill district.

These clashes occurred after allegedly gang -raped by a student of class VIII in Khagrachari district on Tuesday. Khagrachari district is one of the three mountainous districts of Chittagong hilly region bordering India and Myanmar.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka said that 13 military personnel and three policemen were injured in the violence. According to the police, these three deaths occurred in Guimara area, 36 km south of Khagrachhari, where violence spread despite the police and paramilitary border guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel.

Police said the girl was allegedly gang-raped while returning from tuition and her parents and neighbors found her unconscious in a deserted area of ​​the city around midnight.

According to the police, the girl was treated at the local hospital while the police later detained a minor boy with military assistance. The police suspected the boy of being accused and now on the court’s order, he is being questioned on remand for six days.
