The politics of Bangladesh is slowly moving towards elections, although the official date of election has not been fixed yet. The country’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus has indicated that elections may be held in December or January next year.
Traditional parties like Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League and Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) are preparing for it. At the same time, the new political party ‘National Citizen Party’ (NCP), which emerged from the student movement, has also started establishing itself as an important force.
BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami claimed to be preparing to contest all 300 seats. BNP leader Khaleda Zia is coming to Bangladesh from London on Monday.

The NCP is not yet registered with the Election Commission. But the grassroots level is strengthening its grip.
Students demanded ban on Hasina’s party
This time the role of student organizations seems to be important in Bangladesh politics. The National Citizen Party has started making its mark actively in college and villages.
The NCP has made it clear that unless the Awami League is banned and electoral reforms are not recognized, it will not recognize this election. To strengthen the organizational structure at the grassroots level, the NCP is constantly holding meetings and is also combining with cuttering religious parties.
According to Hasanat Abdullah, the leading organizer of the southern region, “Elections cannot be held without a ban on reform and Awami League. We are working on both goals parallel.” This attitude of NCP can affect political equations in the upcoming elections.
Awami League fear of killing candidates Awami League is also preparing for the election. But the party has been struggling with the party leadership crisis since the top leader and former PM Sheikh Hasina went to India. The party fears a ban.
According to senior party leaders, a list of alternative candidates has been prepared for all 300 seats. However, deep concern is being raised about the murder and arrest of party leaders.
According to a senior leader of the organization, if fair elections are conducted, the party is ready to take the exam. But the intention of the current government is constantly doubted, due to which the party’s strategy is becoming challenging.
BNP started rallies, top leadership disappears BNP of Khaleda claimed to contest all 300 seats. The party’s student branch is active in university complexes and is holding meetings continuously.
According to BNP spokesperson Farzana Sharmin Putul, the party is mentally ready for election. However, the party has been accused of extortion and political dominance at the ground level.
There is a confusion about the return of the party’s potential leader Tariq Rahman, which is disappointed among the workers. Party general secretaries Mirza Fakhrul and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi have raised doubts about the fair election under the present government.
