In a speech in Chaigaon, Assam, Grace leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of behaving like an emperor instead of an elected state head. Rahul said that Babbar lion of the Grand Old Party will send him to jail. Addressing party workers during his visit on Wednesday, Rahul alleged that the CM here consider himself not the CM of Assam, but the king of Assam is busy giving 24 hours to your money, land Ambani or Adani.

Targeting the BJP-led state government, Gandhi further said, “If you listen to them on TV, the fear will be clear in their voice. They do big things, shout, but if you see their face on TV, then the fear will be clear in their voice, because they know that one day the lions of the Congress will send them to jail. Nor will Amit Shah be able to save them.

Reacting sharply to Gandhi’s remarks, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the Congress leader had reiterated in a closed room meeting with the State Congress Political Affairs Committee that the Chief Minister would definitely be sent to jail. Taking on X (East Twitter), Sarma wrote, take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail – these were the same words that the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi said by Rahul Gandhi during his closed door meeting with the Congress political affairs committee in Assam. Chief Minister Sarma described this statement as a sense of malicious and political vengeance. He called it an abuse of the political platform.

Himanta Biswa Sarma replied to Rahul Gandhi’s statement through a post on X. He wrote that Rahul Gandhi forgot very comfortably that he himself is on bail in many criminal cases registered across the country. Sarma taunted Rahul and enjoy the hospitality of Assam. Along with this, he further said that Rahul Gandhi has come to Assam only to tell me to jail.
