Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Tuesday expressed apprehension over accepting Y-level security after his release from Sitapur jail and sought written assurance from the government on what kind of security he is being provided. Khan told ANI that he has not received any information about this. I also told the constable that unless I get a written assurance that I have been given security, I will not be able to accept it.

The SP leader said that he did not have confidence in the authenticity of the security assigned to him. He said that my situation has at least taught me that there was illegal encroachment on government land which has been removed by the government… The land was allotted by the government, but I was the one who got 21 years in jail and a fine of Rs 36 lakh. Unless I get written assurance as to who has provided the security, how can I take the security? How can I trust that the khaki-clad, armed men belong to the Uttar Pradesh government?
The SP leader further claimed that after being fined Rs 36 lakh, he is facing financial crisis and is not even able to provide a vehicle for the security assigned to him. He said that the second thing is that my financial condition is not so good that I can arrange a vehicle for my security, hence I have also said that if you are providing security then I do not have a vehicle. Y Security has a provision to provide vehicle, petrol, everything, which was not given to me.
He further said, “Earlier, there were some media reports and discussions going on in the government that when I first got Y level security, I was not convicted, but now when I have been sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 36 lakh and there are many cases registered… then how can I believe that these people will not be taken back, if I do not have assurance and guarantee of their stay?”
