In about 50 months, Azam Khan has lost assets worth about 600 crores. Johar University, considered his dream, is now under the control of administration. About 13 hectares of land of the university has been declared enemy property, several buildings have been sealed and some are being auctioned. There are about 30 cases filed against this university, and the case has now reached the High Court and the Supreme Court. The process of demarcation and geo-tagging of property has also been completed by the administration.
According to the 2022 election affidavit, Azam Khan now has only 35 thousand rupees in cash and about 2 crore 30 lakh rupees in bank accounts, some of which are named after his institutions. As a movable property, he has a Volvo car, a Qualis in the name of his wife, some jewelry, weapons and limited agriculture and non-agricultural land. His income declined drastically over the years. According to a news institute report, annual income from 2016-17 to 2022 was less than 10 lakhs, which used to be in crores earlier.
Explain that during the tenure of Yogi government, 111 criminal cases were registered against Azam Khan, out of which a large number are associated with Johar University. In the last eight years, he has spent nearly 50 months in jail. For the first time, 27 months, 23 months for the second time, ie half of time in the last 8 years spent in jail. The court has banned contesting elections due to cases like corruption, forgery, land possession and enemy property.
Azam Khan, once the most influential face of socialist politics, is now caught in cases, investigations and legal complications. Rampur, which he maintained his stronghold for decades, is now gradually away from him.
