Australian PM Anthony Albanese on China tour, emphasis on increasing business, trying to improve relationship

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz has started a tour of China this week. The purpose of this tour is to further strengthen business relations between the two countries.
High-level meetings
On Sunday (July 13, 2025), Albaniz met Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining. This is the first of many of his meetings with big leaders of China. These meetings include meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Lee Kiang and National People’s Congress President Jhao Legeji.
Travel with large business delegation
On reaching Shanghai on Saturday (July 12, 2025), Albanies told the Chinese government channel CGTN that he was leading the ‘a very big business delegation’ in China. This shows how important economic relations between Australia and China are. According to his office, during this one -week visit, Albanies will meet people associated with business, tourism and sports in Shanghai and Chengdu. It also includes a CEO Round Table Conference in Beijing on Tuesday (July 15, 2025).
Trying to improve relationship
This is Albanies’ second visit to China after the formation of its Labor Party government in 2022. His party was re -elected by a large majority in May. Albanies have persuaded China to lift many business restrictions imposed by the previous Conservative Government. Australian exporters were losing more than 20 billion Australian dollars (about 13 billion US dollars) every year from these sanctions.
Previously, China had stopped talks with the previous Australian government on several issues, including Australia demanding an independent investigation into the origin of Kovid-19. But Albanies now want to reduce Australia’s economic dependence on China, as China is a big business partner of them.
Priority to diversify business
Prior to his visit, Albaniz said, “My government has worked hard to diversify trade … and to increase its relations with other countries in the region such as India, Indonesia and ASEAN (Union of Southeast Asian countries).” He added, “But our relations with China are important, and our relations with North Asian economies like South Korea and Japan are also important in terms of exports.”
China’s positive attitude
China’s official news agency Xinhua said on Sunday (July 13, 2025), in his editorial, moving China’s relations with Australia ‘continuously improving’ and ‘new pace’. The editorial states, ‘There is no basic interest conflict between China and Australia. By resolving differences through mutual respect and focusing on shared interests, both sides can get shared prosperity and benefits. ‘
