Along with this, the Assam government on Thursday said that it will launch a statewide mission to completely eliminate the practice of child marriage by 2026. A total of Rs 200 crore will be spent on this mission. Presenting the budget for 2023-24, Finance Minister of Assam Ajanta Neog said that curbing child marriage in the state is not only a necessity, but it is also extremely urgent. This is the reason why the government has launched a mass campaign against the violators of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA)-2006. He said, continuing the efforts in this direction, our government is committed to start a statewide mission with the goal of making Assam free from the incidence of child marriage by the end of 2026. This new mission will be run by the Women and Child Development Department, for which an amount of Rs 200 crore has been allocated.
