Assam: BJP played bets in Rajya Sabha elections, Kanad Purkayastha made candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Kanad Purkayastha its candidate from Assam for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. In a notification issued on Saturday, the BJP said, “The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has approved the name of Kanad Purastha for the upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections in Assam.” Purakayastha is currently working as the Secretary of Assam Pradesh.

Earlier, Assam BJP had nominated 13 senior party leaders for the Rajya Sabha elections. In the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president, party in -charge and other senior leaders, the names were finalized in the meeting of the State Election Committee in Guwahati on June 3. One of the two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam has been allotted to the BJP’s ally, Assam Gana Parishad (AGP). The State Election Committee received 13 applications for the remaining seats and all the names have been sent to the BJP’s National Committee for final view.
